This study deals with correlations between focusing on the client's voice and the establishment of contact in music therapy. This is a qualitative case study with a child with multiple disabilities and a music therapist. The informants in the study, the client with multiple disabilities and the music therapist, knew each other from before the study and had experiences with music therapy sessions from over a longer period of time. The thesis in the study is presented in the following way: What happens in the establishment of contact when the music therapist is in interplay with the client's initiatives through voice? The data is video observation collected from three different dates with music therapy sessions. This resulted in six different video clips. Out of the video clips it has been made transcriptions of different “events” - these “events” formed narratives with my own descriptions of the ongoing. The video analysis resulted in the following four overarching categories; intrinsic value, to be in interplay, shared experience and communication. The categories points out consistent correlations between focusing on the client's voice and the establishment of contact. The categories are presented with sub-categories. These are described through narratives from the video analysis. Both overarching categories and subcategories are discussed in accordance with theory about music therapy, voice, relations, communication, interplay and interaction. The discussion also includes personal reflections and perceptions on correlations between establishing of contact and voice.nb_NO
