dc.description.abstract | Abstract ----
The purpose of this research project has been to investigate how music therapy can be used to include special-needs children in marching bands, based on the experiences and attitudes of directors. A sub-goal has been to survey whether there is need for music therapist’s competence in this part of the voluntary music life.
The theoretical foundation is based on literature on similar work, inclusion and participation, and how Community Music Therapy approach works to break down social barriers.
Being a qualitative study with an abductive approach to the research process, the project has developed continuously along the way. The empirical material is formed by a survey with a representative selection of Norwegian directors. The survey has shown clear tendencies that co-operation is called for across professions to strengthen inclusion in the marching bands. The directors point out that there is room for special-needs children in the marching bands, but the resources in the band and the directors’ competence are inadequate. A Community Music Therapist will not only be a resource for special-needs children, but also a professional partner with marching bands and directors, in the work of creating positive attitudes and facilitating inclusion in a marching band for everyone. | nb_NO |
| nb_NO |
