In the narrowest sense the term ’early intervention’ (EI) refers to what is done early in the life of a child to influence its developmental course. EI refers to children from birth to the age of six and their families. The various definitions collectively emphasize the importance of influencing the developmental course of at-risk and disabled children with systematic interventions as early as possible. Interventions include various educational, developmental and therapeutic activities as well as support networks of a public and personal nature.
